This paper selects the art of painting of Zeng Wenzhong Taiwanese artist as its topic, focusing on the analysis and discussion of Zeng s formative background, painting concepts, the evolutionary course of his painting style, and his contributions to art and other fields. The author mainly adopts the research methods of interviews, historical studies, and form style research to fulfill the purpose of this study. The author expects to reshape the overall perspective and context of Zeng s painting skills, and thus obtain a more objective and comprehensive conclusion.Zeng Wenzhong devoted his life to expound and propagate the spirit of Hakka culture through painting, so as to awaken peoples awareness to saving their own culture. Zeng underwent the first generation of normal art education in postwar Taiwan. After graduation, in addition to creating new works, he also committed himself to art education in primary and high schools, dedicating all that he had learned to basic art education. In 1989, after his retirement, he fully engaged himself in the work of creating new paintings and activities promoting Hakka culture; in the 1990s, he even established the Meinung People s Association, which focused on local protection through the anti-Meinung Dam Movement. From 2000 on, he continually donated campus murals to junior high and primary schools, and served as the resident artist in a university, comprehensively implementing his concept of art education. With his unrelenting efforts in artistic creation, his devotion to native culture, and his enthusiasm for art education, Zeng was awarded the Hakka Arts Outstanding Achievement Contribution Award by the Council for Hakka Affairs in 2009.Zeng s early paintings mainly adopted the medium of watercolor. He dabbled in oil painting in his interim works. His late period showed the emergence of works with watercolor, oil, and acrylic painting. However, in the early period (1951-1969), when he first began using watercolors, his painting style and technique demonstrated the uncertainty of multiple attempts and learning. In the middle period (1970-1989), a period of almost 20 years, Zeng had already developed the ability of complete and mature expression with his watercolor works. The lively and chipper British watercolor style is very suitable for expressing the beautiful and enchanting Meinung county life; however, regrettably, personal style was not yet evident in his works. Until the late period (1990-), with his participation in social activities, Zeng is able to express all his feelings and thoughts in his works, and later increasingly devotes himself to the creation of large murals. In addition to his technique of combining the characteristics of watercolor and oil painting with acrylic painting, he also coordinates with schools, showing his advocacy of local cultural development in his mural works, and contributing to the promotion of the integration of art with education. The main themes of Zeng s paintings always center on the rural scenery of the Meinung district and traditional Hakka customs and cultural connotations. The paintings of Zeng always reveal his pride in being a Hakka, at the same time reminding people to protect their homeland and traditional cultural values. Through the call of hometown beautiful scenery in his works, he attempts to renew the Hakka spirit, which is being drowned out by modernized slogans. This type of spirit not only represents the essential values in his paintings, but also is confirmed by the social activities that Zeng participated in, which reflect the positive significance and value of an artist participating in social activities with enthusiasm. These events can not only be said to be the result of the achievement and influence of Zeng, but are also a type of contribution to the art circle and to society. Finally, conclusions are put forward based on the research results of this study, and the revelations and knowledge gained during the research are summarized by the author. Additionally, this study also proposes the directions regarding the shortcomings of this study as a reference of future researchers....
